Megapodes are large, ground-dwelling birds found in the tropical forests of Australia, New Guinea, and surrounding islands. They are known for their unique nesting behavior, where they build large mounds of decaying vegetation to incubate their eggs. Megapodes are primarily herbivorous, feeding on seeds, fruits, and leaves. Their distinctive nesting habits are an adaptation to their forest habitats.
